Hello! Today we will make a beautiful crochet hat. It’s simple, easy to crochet and it makes a great gift.

I made this beautiful hat for a 10-year-old boy. He was so happy with it… He would wear it all day long and only remove his beanie when it’s time to sleep. That’s so funny!
It should take you less than 2 hours, and it’s very easy to do. I really recommend it, especially if you are a beginner because you only need the basic crochet stitches, and that means that you can complete this project in a snap.

Can I make it in any size?
Yes, you can make or customize it for any size. You should have a tape measurement and measure your head circumference. You can make chains (multiple of 2) and measure your head circumference with chains. For example, I made 70 chains for head circumference = 50cm / 27.5 inches (10-year old), but when you measure it with a tape measure without a stretch the result is 40 cm / 20 inches.

Hat sizing measurements:
Skill level: Easy/Medium
Materials / Supplies:
You will need :
- Crochet hook size: 4.00 mm.
- Yarn: wool or cotton in any color (140g). (I used wool yarn (light 3), 3.5 oz, 100 g, 230 mt, 252 yards).
- Stitch markers.
- Scissors.
- Yarn Needle.
- Tape measure.
Stitches:
- ch– chain
- st/sts-stitch/stitches
- sl st-slip stitch (Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over and pull through both the stitch and loop on the hook).
- dc-double crochet (Yarn over. Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over pull through stitch. Yarn over pull through two loops. Yarn over pull through two loops).
- 2tog– two stitches together
- fpdc2tog-join next two sts with front post double crochet
- fpdc– front post double crochet
- bpdc– back post double crochet
- rep– repeat
Pattern Notes:
-Repeat what is written in the () as many times as it’s written right after the (). For an example: Repeat (2hdc, hdc1) 5 times. It means that you have to repeat the sequence work 2 hdc sts into the same st. 1 hdc into the next one 5 times. And you will get 5 additional stitches by doing that.
-At the end of each round/row please count how many sts do you have at the end of that round/row.
-In each round make slip stitch in the 3rd chain.
-Ch 3 count as a stitch.

Pattern:
The gauge : 7 sts 4 cm x 3 rows in dc.
Now we will make chains (Multiple of 2 ch) = head circumference (50/51 cm). I made ch 70, sl st in the last st from the hook.
Round 1: Ch 2, dc in the same st, dc in next each around, sl st in the first st to join. (70) sts.
Round 2: ch 3, fpdc in next, bpdc in next, now rep (fpdc in next st, bpdc in next st) around, sl st to join. (70) sts.
Round3: ch 3, fpdc in next, bpdc in next, now rep (fpdc in next st, bpdc in next st) around, sl st to join. (70) sts.
Rounds 4-15: make ch 3, and fpdc in next, bpdc in next, now rep (fpdc in next st, bpdc in next st) around, sl st to join. (70) sts.14 cm
Note: You can make more or less round, I made 15 rounds and it was 14 cm. That’s means when the hat height it’s 18cm for example, make 18-4= 14 cm.
Round 16: ch 3, fpdc and bpdc 2tog, rep around, sl st, in the first st. (35) sts.
Round 17: ch 3, fpdc in next fpdc only (don’t make bpdc, but make only fpdc with fpdc), rep around, sl st in the first st. (18) sts.
Round 18: ch 3, make fpdc2tog in next, fpdc2tog around, sl st in the first st to join. (9) sts. Fasten off. Keep a long tail, so that can sew with it.
CLOSING TOP
Using tapestry needle and strand of yarn leftover from previous seam, whip stitch around the top of the hat, working one whip stitch into each row. Tighten circle as much as possible and use tapestry needle to sew up any remaining opening in top of hat.
And you are done.
