I did this crochet headband for a newborn with the Shell stitch in just 30 minutes. It’s pretty easy to follow and I recommend it for beginners.

You can play with the headband’s colors or with the bow or flower colors, it’s up to you. Possibilities are endless here…

If you decide to try it, I’d really love to see your finished crocheted headband. I like to see the color variations, sometimes I do a headband, then someone tries it with a new color or a new twist, and that gives me ideas and inspiration for the next one!

Alright, let’s get started now…

You will need :

  • Crochet hook size: 3.00 mm
  • Yarn: wool or cotton in any color.
  • Stitch markers.
  • Scissors.
  • Yarn Needle.
  • Tape measure.
  • 1 Flower. (you can see the tutorial Here).
  • Ch – chain
  • St/sts – stitch/stitches
  • Sl st – slip stitch
  • Dc – double crochet
  • Shell stitch – (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) all in the same stitch ( ch space).

If the number is written before the stitch (2 Dc), work 2 Dc into the same stitch. If the number is written after the stitch (Dc 2) , work Dc into the next 2 stitches.

Repeat what is written in the () as many times as it’s written right after the (). For an example: Repeat (2 Dc, Dc 1) 5 times. It means that you have to repeat the sequence work 2 Dc sts into the same st. 1 Dc into the next one 5 times. And you will get 5 additional stitches by doing that.

In each round, we always finish with dc.

At the end of each round/row please count how many sts you have.

Pattern: (0-3 months)

Start with ch 62

Row 1: add ch 2 and skip 2 sts, shell st in next st, skip 3 sts, shell st in next st, now repeat (skip 3 sts, shell st in next st), dc in the last st. (16 shells)

Rows 2-3: ch 3 and turn your work, shell st into every chain space in shell st, dc.    (16 shells)

Row 4:ch 3 and turn your work, shell st in next each shell st space, dc. (16 shells)
