I really enjoyed crocheting this lovely dress! It’s the second baby dress in my collection, and I must say that I absolutely love doing them. I know that you love them as well. That’s why I decided to release one or two new baby outfit patterns every single month from now on. I want to add at least ten new baby dresses in my Etsy shop over the next couple of months.

I’ve designed this cute baby girl dress with two different stitches. For the top, I’ve used the double crochet stitch, and for the skirt part, I decided to go with the V-stitch which has a lovely texture and gives the dress a nice elegance touch.

The V-stitch is now one of my favorite stitches because although it’s beautiful and seems incredibly complex to make, it’s actually super easy and works up fast, and it’s so elegant, especially when used for a baby girl dress. I plan to use it more often in my future projects.

If you are a beginner, you should try it, and if it’s your very first dress and you are brand new to crochet, today is your day because this free pattern will walk you through every single (simple) step, so you can follow through and make this lovely dress for your baby girl or make an amazing gift to your friends.

I will update this post very soon with a matching headband and I’m even thinking about adding a cardigan and booties to make it a complete baby outfit.

Let’s get started crocheting this cute baby girl dress now…

Skill level: Easy/Medium
Sizes: 6-9 months
  • Neck circumference = 30 cm
  • Shoulder Length = 7 cm
  • Dress length = 45 cm

Materials / Supplies:
You will need :

Abbreviations(US Terms):

  • ch= chain.
  • st/sts=stitch/stitches.
  • sl st=slip stitch
  • sc=single crochet (Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over pull through two loops).
  • dc=double crochet (Yarn over. Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over pull through stitch. Yarn over pull through two loops. Yarn over pull through two loops).
  • v= V stitch (dc, ch 1, dc) in the same st.
  • P=picot stitch.
  • rev sc=Reverse Single Crochet Stitch
  • rep=repeat.
  • sk=skip

Pattern Notes:

-If the number is written before the stitch 2 hdc work 2hdc into the same stitch. If the number is written after the stitch hdc 2 work hdc into next 2 stitches.

-Repeat what is written in the () as many times as it’s written right after the (). For example: Repeat (2hdc, hdc1) 5 times. It means that you have to repeat the sequence work 2 hdc sts into the same st. 1 hdc into the next one 5 times. And you will get 5 additional stitches by doing that.

-At the end of each round/row please count how many sts do you have at the end of that round/row.

The Laila Baby Girl Dress (6-9 months):

The Gauge: 20 sts and 26 rounds = 10 x 10 cm (4″ x 4″).

Color Gray:

Round 1: Start with ch 60 (or chains multiple of 2 = Neck circumference + 2 ch) 30 cm, then add ch 2, dc in the 4th ch, dc in the next ch, 2 dc in the same next st, now rep (dc 1, 2 dc) around, 2 dc in the last st. (89 sts)

Round 2: ch 3, sk 1 st, dc in next, now rep (ch 1, sk 1 sts, dc in next) around. (89 sts)

Round 3: ch 2, dc in the space, dc on the top of dc, 2 dc in next space, dc on the top of dc, dc 1 in the next space, now rep (dc on the top of dc, 2 dc in the next space, dc on the top of dc, dc 1 in next space) around. (112 sts)

Now we will repeat round 2 and round 3.

Round 4: ch 3, sk 1 st, dc in next, now rep (ch 1, sk 1 sts, dc in next) around. (112 sts)

Round 5: ch 2, dc in the space, dc on the top of dc, 2 dc in next space, dc on the top of dc, dc 1 in the next space, now rep (dc on the top of dc, 2 dc in the next space, dc on the top of dc, dc 1 in next space) around. (138 sts)

As you can see in the picture above, I made 5 rounds for the shoulder length (which is 7 cm for the size: 6-9 months). If you make the dress for a bigger size (9 to 12m), you should repeat rounds 2 and 3 until you reach the desired size. For example, if you are making the dress for the 1-2 year size, the shoulder length will be 7-8 cm (see chart above for other sizes).

If you are making the dress for a smaller size, you should only make 1 to 3 rounds. Then, continue directly with round 6 (below), until you reach the right size for the shoulder length (see chart above).

Note: If you are using a different hook size (like a smaller 3.00mm hook) and you made 5 rounds, but the shoulder length doesn’t reach 7 cm, you can repeat rounds 2 and 3 (or round 2 only) until you reach the right size for the shoulder length, then do the following:

Round 6: ch 3, sk 1 st, sc in the next st, now rep (ch 3, sk 1 st, sc in the next st) around. (138 sts)

The sleeves:

Now we have 69 spaces (holes). We will try to divide it by 4, 69/4= 17.25. We want to divide the circle we have made into the chest, 2 armholes, and the back.

Now count 8 spaces (holes) and place a marker, count 18 spaces (holes) and place a marker, count 17 spaces and place a marker, count 19 spaces (holes) and place a marker, now you have the last 7 holes.

Round 7: (The back) ch 2, dc in the next space, 2 dc in the next 8 spaces (until you reach the marker) and make ch 6, (The armhole) now sk 17 spaces and 2 dc in the next space (in the marker space), (The chest) make 2 dc in next 17 spaces (holes) and make ch 6, (the armhole) sk 18 spaces and 2 dc in the next space, (The back) 2 dc next 6 spaces (holes), dc 1 in the next space, dc 1 in the 2nd ch. (68 sts)

Round 8: ch 2, dc 1 in the next st, dc in next each st around, sl st with the first st to close the back. (80 sts)

Color pink:

Round 9: ch 2, sk 1 st, V stitch in the next st (dc 1, ch 1, dc 1) in the same st, sk 1 st, V stitch in next, now rep (sk 1 st, v st) around, sl st in the 2nd ch o join. (39 V sts)

Round 10: ch 2, v st in next v st (in the space of v), v st in each v st around, sl st in the 2nd ch. (39 v sts)

Round 11-36: ch 2, v st in next v st (in the space of v), v st in each v st around, sl st in the 2nd ch. (39 v sts)

Note: If you want the dress to be longer than this, you should make more rounds.

Round 37: ch 1, 6 dc in next v st, sc in next v st, now rep (6 dc in next v st, sc in next v st) around. (20 shells)

Fasten off.

The ending:

With color Gray:

Start in the left upper part of the dress.

Insert your hook in the neck and ch 1, sc in next 3 st, p (picot st), sc in next 3 st, p st, now rep (sc in next 3 st, p st) around. Now continue making sc until the other side. I made 40 sc, and sl st in the first st. Then make rev sc in next 38 sc, ch 6, sk 1 st, 1 rev sc, sl st, and ch.

Fasten off.

The Flowers: make 3:

Round 1: with 1.00 mm hook size, start with 21 ch, dc in 5th ch from hook, ch 1, dc in the same st (v stitch), now rep (sk 1 sts, dc in next, ch 1, dc in the same st) to the end of the row.
Round 2: ch 1, 6 dc in next v st, sc in next ch space (not in v st), now rep (6 dc in next v st, sc in next space) around, ch 1. Leave a long tail to sew with it.
Fasten off.

Now to form the rose, roll up the strip as in the picture.

Then sew it on the backside as in the picture.

Now you can add the flower to the dress.
